I hate to break it to you, but business isn’t just a smooth ride to everlasting happiness. These blocks are always present, they just change in scope and magnitude depending where you are on the business journey.
After working with hundreds of spiritual business owners over the years, I’ve discovered 4 major blocks that hold intuitive entrepreneurs back from sharing their gifts.

BrigitEsselmont: Now here's the thing, it really doesn't matter where you are on your journey. Whether you're at the very beginning, whether you've been doing business for 5 years, 10 years, 20 years, whether you've made your first thousand dollars, a billion dollars, who cares? We all face these blocks at one time or another on our entrepreneurial journey. I would even go as far to say that we're always facing them. One of these blocks is always presenting themselves to us right here, right now.
BrigitEsselmont: I can tell you, even though that I've been doing Biddy Tarot for 20 years now, I still face blocks and challenges throughout my entrepreneurial journey. I just want you to know it really doesn't matter where you are, but these things come up. Now, it just takes on, really, a different shape, or a different context, or a different scale depending on the size of your business. For some people, this can be absolutely debilitating. And sadly, it can be the thing that prevents them from even moving forward with their business. They join the ... What is it? Like 8 out of 10 small businesses that fail in their first year because they can't overcome these blocks.
BrigitEsselmont: But for the other group of people, these blocks turn into challenges, and then, of course, opportunities. Because whenever we face a challenge, it turns into an opportunity for us to make positive changes and to do things in a different way. I don't know if you've ever heard this before, but I tell myself this all the time. Entrepreneurship is one of the best personal development courses you'll ever get. I tell you what, in my journey, I have learnt so much about myself, and about who I am, and how I stand in this world, and everything in between. So when we face these challenges head on and we turn them into opportunities, not only do we grow our business and we start to see more results in our business, we're growing ourselves, and that is the most important thing.
BrigitEsselmont: So here's the thing if your facing blockages or challenges. I don't want you to be in that group that then goes, "Oh, too much. I can't do it." I want you to be in that group that says, "All right. Challenge, I see you. We're going to get through this. We're going to turn this into an opportunity, and I'm going to overcome it." With that in mind, I want to walk you through these four blocks. And remember that I'm going to be diving into these in a little bit of detail today, but more so in my upcoming training, which you'll find over at biddyTarot.com/4blocks.
BrigitEsselmont: All right, the first block is momentum. Now, I had a coaching client once who wanted to create a course on intuitive development. But every time she went to hit the record button to film her video tutorials, she absolutely struggled. Nothing would work. The video wouldn't turn on. It would turn out to be a blurry image. The microphone wasn't working. She couldn't get her slides to show properly. Every time she'd go to speak, her words would just jam up. She came to me feeling absolutely frustrated and so disappointed because what she thought she wanted to create, this intuitive development course, just was not coming to fruition.
BrigitEsselmont: She thought, "Well, maybe I've just got to keep trying harder." She would keep pushing and pushing, but she would not get the results that she wanted. So we started to look at what did she really want in a business, what was a really good fit for her, and what was her intuition guiding her towards. So when we spoke together, we started to realign with her vision for her business and what she does really well. Through our conversation, we realized that, actually, instead of doing a whole video course, she really wanted to self-publish a book. This was going to suit her introverted nature a lot more, and so we started planning out what it would look like to self-publish and what that book could contain. When she started working on that, oh my goodness, everything started to flow so much more, and she was able to bring that self-published book into fruition a lot more quickly.
BrigitEsselmont: This is the thing, right? Many business owners come up against this block that they think is about momentum or I've just got to ... I've got this goal. I've just got to push harder. I've got to make it happen. I've just got to work harder, strive harder, push, push, push. And then they get frustrated because nothing's happening. Nothing's moving. Everything feels hard and difficult. We think that we've just got to keep working harder. But I tell you what, it's not that. It's that we're not aligned with our goals. The goals that we think that we're working towards are perhaps what we've seen someone else do really successfully or what we think someone else is going to say, "Oh yeah, do that strategy. The person down the street's doing that." But really, what we need to do is tune into our intuition more and really connect with what is the goal that's in alignment with our own destiny, with our own strength as an entrepreneur, and a healer, and a leader in the field. That is the first block around this idea of momentum. And instead of pushing and forcing, thinking more about how do you align and flow with your goals.
BrigitEsselmont: The second block is around confidence. I want to share a story about my earlier days as a Tarot reader. I would try, and try, and try to be this predictive Tarot reader, because I thought that was the way that you did things, right? That's what people expected, that you'd be this psychic, that you could read their minds. You could predict dates. You could predict if something was going to happen. You could predict names. Everything. Everything that you could predict with these Tarot cards. I would try, and try, and try to meet these expectations of the clients. But every time I tried, it just felt so off, and my readings weren't that great because I was trying to force myself into this box that other people had created for me.
BrigitEsselmont: There was a point at which I just had to stop and stop doing readings because it was not working at all. When I took that time to pause, and reflect, and effectively just take a break, I started to realize something. I thought it was that I wasn't a very good Tarot reader. But really, what I discovered was that I wasn't reading for the right people. And even more so, I wasn't clear about who I was as a Tarot reader. I wasn't clear about the value that I offered, the service that I could deliver, what made me different and unique to other people out there. When I started to get really clear about the value that I offered as a reader and also who my dream client was, then I started really taking off with my Tarot readings. That's when I got awesome feedback. I ended up with a wait list. I could increase my prices. Everything fell into place.
BrigitEsselmont: The lesson out of that is that sometimes we think that the blocker is that we're not good enough, we're not as successful enough, or we're not as successful as the other person. We're not good enough. We're not doing enough. But really, what it comes down to is we haven't yet connected with our true essence of what it is that we're here to do. We haven't connected with our value as a healer or an entrepreneur, and we also haven't really connected with our ideal clients. That is our block number two when that feeling of confidence or lack of confidence comes up that you're probably hitting up against more around self-value, self-worth, and understanding your core essence.
BrigitEsselmont: All right. Block number three is marketing. Now, if you identify as an intuitive or a spiritual entrepreneur, sometimes the word marketing may make your skin crawl. I'll tell you what, this is the thing. Oftentimes for spiritual entrepreneurs, this whole concept of marketing can just feel really icky and gross. We think, "Oh, marketing's so yuck. I just don't want to do it in my business. I don't want to be that person. I don't want to be that person that's got yellow highlights on my sales page. I don't want to be that person that's selling the bonus steak knives with everything." And we start to think, "Oh, well maybe marketing I just can drop it altogether." But it's not true because marketing is actually the thing that really connects us from what we have to offer, the value that we have to offer to the people that we are here to serve and here to help. I think it really comes down to a reframe of what marketing is for the spiritual entrepreneur. And it becomes more about ... well, less about how I can sell, but more about how can I serve. Instead Of asking, "How can I increase my price?" you ask, "Well, how can I increase my value?" These are small changes that will get you big results.
BrigitEsselmont: All right, and now last blockage. Oh my goodness. I'm feeling this right now. It's overwhelm. No matter where you are in your business journey, there are going to be those times when you feel overwhelmed. It might be that you're overwhelmed about all of the things that you think you should be doing right now.
BrigitEsselmont: I had one client who was like, "Brigit, I just don't know where to start. I've got 20 hours a week to work on my business," which is awesome, "and I'm just finding myself in this time suck. I'll be going down the rabbit hole of spending a whole day on how to upload a video to YouTube because I have no idea. Or the next day, I'll listen to a podcast and they tell me that I now need to create an ebook, and then I start researching how to create an ebook. Or I've got to do an audit on my blog. Oh my goodness. Now I've got all of these things I need to do." We start to feel that overwhelm very, very quickly.
BrigitEsselmont: Do you want to know the secret to overcoming overwhelm? It's to have a plan and to follow that plan in a really sustainable way. Because when we're really focused on what it is that we need to do to get to our goal, that's when we can just stay in that real intense space of concentration. We know exactly what it is that we're working towards, and we know how to get there. Can you imagine that just for a moment, if you knew exactly that one thing that you're working towards and how to get there? I can almost see it for myself. Everything else just falls away, and you become so much more focused on your success, and it becomes clearer to you about how to get there.
BrigitEsselmont: Those are our four blocks. One is around momentum, another around confidence, another around marketing, and finally around overwhelm.
